Screw Conveyor Classification
Screw conveyors are generally divided into two types: shaft screw conveyors and shaftless screw conveyors. A shaft screw conveyor consists of a screw, a U-shaped trough cover, inlet and outlet ports, and a drive device, while a shaftless screw conveyor replaces the screw with a shaftless spiral and has replaceable liners inside the U-shaped trough, resulting in a simpler structure. Materials are fed from the inlet, propelled by the spiral, and discharged from the outlet. The entire process can be carried out in a sealed trough, reducing noise and odor emissions. Since there are no high-speed rotating parts in the equipment, screw wear is low, equipment energy consumption is low, and virtually no maintenance is required.

Screw Conveyor Components
A screw conveyor generally consists of three main parts: the conveyor body, the inlet and outlet ports, and the drive device. The spiral blades of the screw conveyor come in three forms: solid spiral surface, belt spiral surface, and blade spiral surface. Among them, the blade spiral surface is relatively less used, mainly for conveying materials with high viscosity and compressibility. This type of spiral surface, during the conveying operation, simultaneously performs the functions of stirring and mixing the materials.
Screw Conveyor Principle
The operating temperature range of the screw conveyor is -20~50℃; the material temperature is less than 200℃; the conveyor inclination angle β ≤ 20°; the conveying length is generally less than 40 meters and does not exceed 70 meters.
The spiral pipe conveyor (or roller conveyor) works on the principle that continuous spiral blades are welded inside a cylindrical body. The body and spiral blades rotate together, and the entering material rotates and rises due to the friction between the spiral blades and the inner wall of the body. Then, under the action of gravity, the material rolls down along the spiral blade and moves axially. Its structure includes a cylindrical body, inlet and outlet ports at both ends, intermediate inlet and outlet ports, rollers, and a drive device. Spiral pipe conveyors are suitable for horizontal conveying of high-temperature, large-piece (including powdery, granular), and fluid materials, but are not suitable for conveying viscous powdery materials with high water content. Its features include compact structure, good sealing, multi-point feeding and unloading, simultaneous completion of conveying, stirring, mixing, and other process requirements, reliable operation, no material wedging, low drive energy consumption, and it is a good energy-saving conveying equipment.
Screw Conveyor Features
1. The spiral shaft, hanger bearings, head, and tail shaft connections all use an embedded tongue design, making installation and disassembly easy without axial movement, facilitating maintenance. Long shaft, fewer hangers, and fewer failure points.
2. The variable diameter structure increases the volume at the hanger bearing, preventing contact between the hanger bearing and the material, extending the service life of the hanger bearing to over two years.
3. All transmission parts use a floating connection method, and the hanger bearing is a universal joint structure, making the spiral, hanger bearing, and tail assembly form an integral floating body. Within a certain range, it can freely rotate and avoid obstacles according to the conveying resistance, preventing material jamming and blockage.
4. The head and tail bearing seats are both outside the shell, and all bearings use multi-layer sealing and combined sealing technology, resulting in a long bearing service life.
Screw Conveyor Applications
Screw conveyors are used to transport various wastes and filter residues generated during industrial production, screen output residues from urban water supply and drainage, and mud cakes during sludge dewatering.
Screw conveying is a widely used conveying equipment in the chemical, building materials, and grain industries, mainly used for conveying powdery, granular, and small-piece materials. It is not suitable for conveying materials that are easily perishable, sticky, or prone to caking.

Screw conveyors are mainly used for conveying powdery, granular, and small-piece materials, such as coal powder, soda ash, reclaimed rubber powder, zinc oxide, calcium carbonate, and small pieces of coal.
Screw conveyors are widely used in various industries, such as building materials, chemicals, power, metallurgy, coal mining, and grain. They are suitable for horizontal or inclined conveying of powdery, granular, and small-piece materials, such as coal, ash, slag, cement, and grain, with material temperatures below 200℃. Screw conveyors are not suitable for conveying materials that are easily perishable, highly viscous, or prone to caking. In concrete mixing plants, the role of screw conveyors is significantly highlighted.
